Good news for planetscape fans, Torment: Tides of Numenera reached its kickstarter goal and will now be getting made, it is not a sequel to Planetscape, but many of the original planetscape devs are involved.
What is interesting about this new PC game is the kickstarter project for it only launched today and met its goal within 24 hours of launch.
Way go goal people.... suck on it EA and UBI.
It shows how much support for PC developers exists out there.
I love this, for too long major publishers have been telling us we must have 3D, we must love call of duty whilst denying is the games we actually wanted. Now Kickstarter comes along and allows developers to buy pass those a large publishers and get funding directly from us. They call it crowd funding btw.
Inxile, the company making Wasteland 2 will be making it and promise Torment: Tides of Numenera will be a character driven RPG.

Simcity: EA get it badly wrong

The new Simcity has been released in the US already the first day reviews which are normally straight 10s from fan boys are instead less than 4 out of 10 in most cases.
Complaints that the maps are too small and the online DRM that means you cannot even play the game if you have no internet connection seem to be common place. As are reports of people who got the game not being able to play because EA servers where down. Sounds like they are repeating UBISOFTs mistake to me.
Commercial reviews have given Simcty an average of 9.1 on metacritics, sounds like a great game ay.... Well they also got badly wrong. Over 300 user viewers have given Simcity an average score of 3.3 and that figure seems to be falling fast.
Looks like the commercial review boys are way out of touch with their own readers..... AGAIN.
Users are calling it Sim Village or SimTown, nobody seems to think the cities are actually the right size for a city.
So the highlights, small maps and DRM that actually stops people playing a single player game because the servers are down. Not a single mention of any unique or original features.
I plan on getting this in a few days but given the reports I see here, I think I'll downgrade what I planned to get from the version with various countries supported to just the normal version.
One last thing, anybody that has ever tried using EA's The Sims Store will tell you it spends 99% of its town down. You can view it, you just cannot buy anything from it most days. So it seems EA have other server issues too.

Today I am mostly working out how to avoid this little bug in my new mod. This is what happens when you use the moveto command to move 5 NPCs after resurrecting them and then evaluating their packages.
Enjoy.

Are you ready to build your own Impire ? That is like an Empire but involves Imps :)
A game just appeared on Steam that sounds like it falls in to the Dungeon Keeper genre of games. I am not sure of it will be any good but as a fan of Dungeon Keeper I am willing to take the risk :)
In fact I finished Dungeon Keeper 2 for the umpteemth time just a few weeks ago.
The game is Impire and it costs £15 on Steam so it is pretty cheap.
Steam on Linux

Steam now officially supports Linux, yes you heard me, linux now gets mains stream support for games. So the question of not installing Linux for gaming reasons now goes out of the Window pardon the pun.
Too bad linux has become a boring kiddy OS that locks you out of everything as standard. It used to be fun OS, allowed you to do things simply by login in as admin and messing around. Now your more or less crippled the moment you install it have to hack your way in to your own OS to unlock its potential.
Still, the fun linux is still out there waiting to be unlocked.
Totally custom desktops that are unique to you were always popular on the Amiga and Linux but not allowed on Windows. With Linux as a main OS you can now have your games and customise your desktop and go crazy. Make your computer say "This is MY machine, THIS is what I like" rather than what Microsoft and Apple like and force on us. Okay they let us change the backdrop, big deal...... BORING, that is so... well windows... only Windows was ever that dull!
Next time I reinstall my main OS, Windows may not be the one I choose :)
So Devs, if you were thinking about making linux versions of your game and did not because you had no distribution method, nows the time to revisit those plans. Some of us have been waiting for this moment for decades.
Are you a modder, do you have a problem ?

I know sometimes it is hard to get your questions answered on other sites when you are a modder and you are stuck on something. I also know people leap to conclusions and often answer their own question instead of the one you asked. I also know the first reply to a thread can derail it and stop you getting any answers at all.
Providing you say thank you and providing we know the answer, if you ask a question about modding on our forums we will always answer or tell you we do not know the answer, usually your left with clues where to go next either way. It is my policy not to leave questions unanswered like that for too long if I spot them.
So if you are a modder of a game we support and do get stuck, sign up on the forums and ask your question.
I only have 1 request, do not ask how to mod Skyrim, that is like asking why the world exists, it we would be here all year answering that question. We can tell when a person is wasting our time because any serious modder knows how to do basic research on their own, they dive in to the editor BEFORE asking questions and when they do ask questions, their questions are usually very specific and easily answered.
Those who ask questions BEFORE getting the editor and before diving in typically never become modders. This is just a fact. So dive in, start modding, when you get stuck, remember we are there for you.

Dow found a newish video about the new Simcity game due out on March 5th 2013. In this version of the game some of the old classic elements of past Simcity games are retained by Simcity as it moves in to a new 3D era with highly detailed buildings replacing the old bitmap high resource, slow gameplay cities that existed in the last version of the game nearly 10 years ago.
