Simcity: EA get it badly wrong

User Rating:  / 0
PoorBest

The new Simcity has been released in the US already the first day reviews which are normally straight 10s from fan boys are instead less than 4 out of 10 in most cases.

Complaints that the maps are too small and the online DRM that means you cannot even play the game if you have no internet connection seem to be common place. As are reports of people who got the game not being able to play because EA servers where down. Sounds like they are repeating UBISOFTs mistake to me.

Commercial reviews have given Simcty an average of 9.1 on metacritics, sounds like a great game ay.... Well they also got badly wrong. Over 300 user viewers have given Simcity an average score of 3.3 and that figure seems to be falling fast.

Looks like the commercial review boys are way out of touch with their own readers..... AGAIN.

Users are calling it Sim Village or SimTown, nobody seems to think the cities are actually the right size for a city.

So the highlights, small maps and DRM that actually stops people playing a single player game because the servers are down. Not a single mention of any unique or original features.

I plan on getting this in a few days but given the reports I see here, I think I'll downgrade what I planned to get from the version with various countries supported to just the normal version.

One last thing, anybody that has ever tried using EA's The Sims Store will tell you it spends 99% of its town down. You can view it, you just cannot buy anything from it most days. So it seems EA have other server issues too.

I refuse to waste money on SC games anymore, after SC IV turned out to be a letdown for me.

I don't have it myself but i have seen a lot of complaints about server queues preventing people from playing even if they only want to play single player which perfectly shows how always on drm can cause issues even if you do have an internet connection.
