This Websites Cookies
The EU Cookie Directive came into effect on the 26th May 2012 and requires all European Union websites inform its users of what cookies are used and what information they contain and give you an option to opt out.
In this case, the spirit of the law is to Educate you about cookies and how they are used. So that is exactly what I am going to do now.
Cookies be used to gather information about you from your own computer by remembering what you do online. When you next visit a website, the cookie with all its information is retrieved.
Some companies seriously abuse the cookie system, even installing third party cookies for allied companies to gather information about you. Until now, they could do this without breaking the law, now they have to tell you they are doing it if they are based within the European Union and give you the chance to opt out.
The Engineering Guild is a UK website and thus falls within the European Union. So we must tell you what our cookies do.
Our cookies store only your login details and are only used to help you login in quickly. If you do not tick "Remember me", nothing is stored about you. So you have ALWAYS had the option to opt out of our cookies. Our cookies also store your forum actions such as what posts you have read, if you wanted to be anon and features like that the site remembers your preferences when you return.
Whether do or not makes no difference to us, we do not look at that information and do not use it. It is there entirely for your benefit.
Removing Cookies
To find the Engineering Guilds Cookies, type in "Engineer" in to any search box on any cookie management screen for the browser you use. You should see all out cookies and how they are used.
This is how you find the cookie features in 3 popular HTML 5 browsers that this website supports. IE has been slow to support HTML 5 which this website needs, so is not listed nor is it supported.
Firefox users can go to the the Firefox Browsers Tools menu and selection options, from there go to privacy. That tab will tell you where the cookies are found and allow you to check what cookies are on your computer. It allows you to set how they expire as well as other things.
Opera Users can find cookies by going to the Tools Menu and selecting Preferences, then going to Advanced. Operas own cook management system can be found on that page.
Google Chrome users can manage their cookies by clicking on the spanner icon "Customise and control Google Chrome", then go down to settings, clicking + Show Advanced Settings. Finally scrolling down to Privacy and clicking on Content Settings.
