Why they ripped off Arthmoors mod

I spent the last hour or so talking to people in the Open Cities No Gates mod page on Steam about Yo Lindi having no right to steal Arthmoors Open City mod and all their arguments boiled down to this one thing.

Arthmoor made his mod his way and wanted to keep it that way, several players then asked him to remove the oblivion gates and he did not want too, so they stolen his mod and removed them away.

Making a few deletions and calling it a new.

They claimed as End USERS it was their right to take over a mod if the modder refused to do something they wanted done.

I said Arthmoor had every right to refuse to do something to his mod if he did not want to do it and the players had no rights what so ever over the mod.

Their entire argument basically boiled down to them having the right to steal a modders hard work if the modder refuses to do as they say. Sounds a lot like what Beth and Nexus Trolls once did to me.

One user asked why did I defend Arthmoor when I clearly do not like the guy, a smart question for once and I replied, because I am a man of principles and I am defending the modders rights over his own work. Arthmoor just happens to be benefiting from that stand today.

They talked about modding communities and modders making mods for modding communities, only their version of a modding community has modders slaving around after them and doing as we told.

So I told them a real modding community is based on trust, respect and mutural admiration of each others work. But most of all the free exchange of ideas and friendly competition to see who does the best with those ideas and that a mod is not worth making if your not making them inside such a community.

They called me Elitist, which proves they do not know a lot about modding communities like TEG because elitist people do not respect anybody, least of all new modders which I support a lot around here and treat them as equals and have done for over 10 years now on various websites I have run. That is why I have so many modding friends.

I asked them a straight question that I hoped would make them stop and think.

I said "In your community a modder either does as his told or you steal his work, the end result of that is everybody in your community is 1 step away from an all out flame at all times and your best modder only knows how to delete a couple of oblivion gates".

"What exactly do you offer us real modders that would make us want to join such a community...."

I am still waiting for a good answer to that.

or they could just play the game vanilla style and never know the difference, do what's right people and give credit due where it's deserved, otherwise, make use 6 months of your time to make your OWN mod and see how people respond.

I for one applaud anyone who delegates their own time to make a mod for us to enjoy and play with. It ain't easy guys! It's hard work!

just because i want somethign doesnt give me the right to alter someones work and pass it off as my own new product. the arrogance of someone trying to do that is astounding

The only answer to the 'why' question is 'for the privilege of (the trolls) using your mod',in which case they should develop some respect before professing entitlement.

The crime isn't altering the mod in my eyes though. That'd be pointless to argue about because there's simply no way you can control the users local copy. The crime is reuploading it and profiting from the traffic etc I've discussed elsewhere.

Somebody unhappy with a small aspect of a mod like this example could make the alteration, then ask the original author to upload this new version, thus lending legitimacy to their work on it.

If the original modder won't do this, then they've certainly crossed a line.
