Photo from the Queens Diamond Jubilee

I found this great photo from the Queens Diamond Jubilee online today, it shows over a 250,000 people marching down the Mall towards Buckingham Palace after the final parade of the Jubilee. One of the few events where you see lots of Brits and Common Wealth citizens waving the Union Jack.

The Guardian News Paper had a Royal Pageant page "As it Happened" showing the events minute by minute that was actually quite interesting. Worth a look if you want to get the big picture of the boat pageant too.

What you may not know is shortly after War World 2 the British Empire started to be dismantled in favor of the Common Wealth, a set of democratic trading nations. The Queen was instrumental in overseeing that change over from a conquering nation to a full democratic capitalist nation and it is why former nations of the Empire are friends of England today and even allies.

Most Empires collapse sooner or later but when the wind changed and large bulky empires started to become a liability, the British Empire Transformed it self in to something that is a positive asset today.

Sadly the only nation that does not see it self as part of common wealth is the United States even though it technically qualifies as a former member of the Empire and as a democratic capitalist nation. Still I noticed lots of Americans attended the celebrations anyway so many of you there to see it :)

As owner and webmaster of this site I am a Royalist and proud of my country and proud of my countries allies. I would not want to live anywhere else.

Whilst some bad events forced me on to Uk servers for legal reasons so I might deal with the idiots attacking me for making good mods via the courts or handle developers that get delusional over what they think they can tell a modder to do on his own website.

I do like to think that being on a English Server using a UK domain and promoting English Creativity through my modding makes this site a little more British in a quiet sort of way :)

I am not a flag waver by nature and I do consider unnecessary flag waving to be tacky unless there is a reason for it. I resist the urge to slap Union Jacks all over this website because I consider it inappropriate and do not want the US and THEM feel that comes from unnecessary flag waving to dominate this site.

Keeping the flags off the site allows for a much more relaxed and less confrontational environment than flag wavers usually generate.

Besides the .CO.UK part of the domain name is all the flag I need to wave :)

However given the celebrations, I consider this appropriate so please excuse me :)

hehe.... sounds cool.

I agree that a certain amount of flag waving is healthy at the right times.

Howdy Giskard, like just about every American, I like the UK. We really do like the British, and the Queen is one of the people of the World that can and does help the World remain calm and carry on, and We Humans need more people like her.

About Flag waving, I have always thought that over waving, can get out of hand and lead to overly strong Nationalism, that can lead to negative relationships with other Nations, but a little is healthy and is good for people to celebrate their differences with their neighbors and allies. By the way, my security software puts a small Union Jack in the URL for this site. That flag is nice to see, it tells me that I have not so much to worry about at sites with that flag.

As always, Your Friend in Texas
