Sorry about the pun, could not resist it. Before I disappear for a few days, I want to just let you know about Risen 2. I am about 22 hours in so far and have done fair number of islands now and met 4 of my crew mates for my ship.
Risen is a game that takes you island hopping in a Pirates of the Caribbean style RPG. Lots of voodoo and inquistors. Cool stuff, works much better than I expected.
Those who played Risen 1 will remember it had a slightly cheesy feel to it but was otherwise a great game. Risen 2 is much better, everything in it has improved but its not a big budget title, so its not go the big budget title polish. But then again its not got the bugs Skyrim had either. In fact I have found no bugs at all so far in this giant open world RPG, which proves it can be done by a small developer even though the mighty Bethesda cannot make a stable game to save their lives.
During my travels so far I have met up with Steel Beard, got my own ship, defeated a titan, gathered 2 special weapons needed to kill the games chief bad girl, got Patty (Steel Beards daughter from the first game), Channi (The daughter of a tribe Chief), A cook and a Gnome named Jaffar to join my crew.
The characters in Risen as very good, Patty flirts with you a lot, taking the "MEN" attitude, Channi does not like being ordered about as a daughter of a chief but is very sexy and very useful. The Cook is a cook, but Jaffar, he is just so dam funny you have to see him to believe him.
Simfan wanted more lore out of Risen 2, well he is going to get it, lots of Gnome lore hehe, and Tribal Lore and other lore. Even the towns and villages have a nice feel to them.
I have been told Risen 2 is getting slated by the professional reviews and certain players. As a modder I know players love to moan about things but here is a fact for you. After 2 days play, averaging 11 hours per day, I am about half way though it i think so i am not ready to give it a score yet.
Some of these review scores on metacritics come from before the game was released, others after 1 day of release. None of them have had time to really try this game out. Those who have seem to be loving it. So I predict the scores will rise once those who are playing it start voting for it. So ignore the review scores, especially the professional ones, most are total bollox right now.
This is a good game, its not as polished as other big budget games but it is very addictive. The true test of what I say is the fact I have been glued to the computer for 2 days playing it at the expanse of all other games.
You cannot give a better thumbs up for a game than that.
Replay value should be good too because the game is huge and you have to choose between things at key points, meaning you can go back and try it a different way later.
Anyway I will have to put Risen 2 down for a few days as I deal with family matters in Kent, but when I get back if I am strangely silent its because I am back on Risen 2 again :)
Make of that what you will, personally I think that is a sign of a good game :)
I have played this game since it came out almost constantly, it is very addictive, and I am not even half way though it yet after 22 hours play over days. thats 11 hours a day playing it. If I can only get about half way though in 22 hours, how did those voting a 4 get to know the game so well they raqt
