Welcome to The Engineering Guild

Before you start, understand there is a question hidden on this page that we expect those who wish to join our forum to answer in their introduction post. This is to ensure you have actually read the rules. You only need to concern yourself with this IF you intend to post here.

This page tells you everything you need to know about the Guild, and will be updated as needed to include new information. This page appears when you first register and is available from the Guild Guidelines link at the top of the forum after you join us. So its easy to find if you need it.

The Guild is divided into 2 sections.

Downloads and the Private Forums. To join the private forums you will have to read all of this page. If you wish to download and leave, go ahead but understand, we purge download accounts on a regular basis so if you cannot log in at any point, you will need to make a new account.

Important information about the Guild.

Downloading from the Guild.

Providing you make no attempt to post on the Guild Website, you do not need to know our rules to download. At this stage, you do not have to register to download. This may change in the future. You will find a link to the download area in the menu on the main site homepage. However, if you intend to be a member of The Engineering Guild Forums, you must make an introduction post in the forums introduction section. By doing so, you will be expected to know the site rules.

Our Private Forums and those who wish to join.

Our forums are private, exclusively to our members, our downloads are not though, all downloads are found in the guild download section HERE. The forums are hidden from all but those we allow to see them and we are very fussy who we allow to join our site as full members. So whilst you may be able to download, you may not be allowed to post or even see the forums.

Our forums are for members of this site who are friendly, polite and respectful of others. That is how we like it because the Guild is a Troll free website and we aggressively ban anybody who shows signs of trolling.

So if you think moaning is the norm and abuse online should be accepted, then do not try and join because we will ban you and you will then lose the chance to download too.

To join us, simply post your introduction in the "New Arrivals MUST introduce themselves here first" forum.

If you want to be accepted as a full member with posting rights, you will be expected to know the rules of the site and answer the hidden question within these rules on this page. Failure to answer that question will tell us you did not read the rules and we will delete your account on the spot.

Reading this page is a condition of membership.

Also do not PM the Guild Master unless its very important.

Instead there is a simple problems and feedback forum HERE

Some things to know as a member.

Bethesda and Nexus forums have been a constant source of troll trouble for us so we prefer not be involved with those forums or the members on those sites. It is our wish that all members of our forum respect this and avoid talking about the guild, or what we do here on those sites. This step is taken to avoid trouble.

You must respect that fact that we do not support Bethesda or Nexus communities at all here, nothing made here is made for those communities or the members of those communities.

When you cause trouble here!

When trouble comes up on the forums, understand it is not our job to waste our time trying to calm you or persuade you about anything. All we will do is warn you, and if you ignore the warning, we will ban you. No email will be sent to tell you of this, no further time will be wasted on you. You will be history and that will be the end of your time here.

Dealing with idiots is very time consuming and can become a full time job, so we choose not to. You live within our rules or you leave the site one way or another.

Forum Rules (READ FIRST)

(These rules are based on the Saga Forum Rules: See http://www.playsaga.com for a good free to play RTSG MMOG if you want to find out more about SAGA). I should also point out I need these rules as much as you do because I realize I am guilty of breaking many of these myself. So lets abide by them together and create a better forum.

These rules are intended to promote friendly and polite usage of our forum but moderators are free to act against anybody who acts against the spirit of these rules. So any troll playing the rule quoting game to get out of being punished, will be punished anyway if they have acted against the spirit of these rules.

The Engineering Guild Forum Code of Conduct

1. Be respectful of others at all times.

The purpose of the forum is to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas. Occasionally, there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. It is possible to disagree without being insulting.

2. Ranting is prohibited

A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and helpful in the development of the game, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on rambling tangents.

3. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts which are designed to personally berate or insult another. Text of this nature is not beneficial to the community spirit and will not be tolerated.

4. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is the word used to describe a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting the members of the forum community. Posts of this nature are disruptive and do not convey a friendly attitude.

5. No posting of personal information

Please respect the privacy of other The Engineering Guild users and do not give out information such as phone numbers and addresses.

6. Private communication between the The Engineering Guild Staff and the forum users is not to be made public on these forums or by any other venue.

You are not permitted to publicize any private correspondence (including petitions) received from any of the aforementioned.

7. Warnings and bans are not to be discussed on the forum.

Such matters shall remain private. Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through e-mail or private messaging. Likewise, discussions regarding moderator actions are not permitted on the forum. If you have questions regarding a post or thread, please contact admin@theengineeringguild.co.uk

8. Immediate banning from the forum can result from any of the following:

The posting of pornography; discriminatory remarks which are sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; excessive obscene or vulgar language; posts which discuss or illustrate illegal activity; providing links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned.

9. Spamming and bumping are prohibited.

Spam is considered to be repetitive posting of the same text again and again or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users. Spamming is also unauthorised advertising of anything not in keeping with the websites theme. Bumping posts in order to keep them near the top of the list is also prohibited. Posts of this nature are not conducive to community spirit and are unwelcome.

10. Impersonating another forum user, moderator, volunteer, administrator of The Engineering Guild is strictly prohibited.

You are expressly forbidden from impersonating anyone else, including those named above, on the forum or in the game, even in jest. This may be grounds for permanent loss of your The Engineering Guild account and a permanent ban from the forums.

11. "Newbie" bashing will not be tolerated.

All flames will be automatically deleted and the poster may be warned or permanently barred from future forum use. New players are the lifeblood of the forum and should be treated as equals at all times. A helpful link to a related topic is a proper way to help someone asking a question that has been asked a thousand times.

12. Signature graphics are permitted, please consider these to be guidelines when making your signature or Avatar.

Signature graphics must follow the guidelines in #8 and should always be in good taste.

The size limits for signature graphics are as follows:

* Maximum height: 110 pixels
* Maximum width: 640 pixels
* Maximum file size: 100KB

Only one image is allowed to be used in the signature.

13. Avatar graphics are permitted, please consider these to be guidelines when making your sig or Avatar.

* Maximum height: 100 pixels
* Maximum width: 100 pixels
* Maximum file size: 50k

14. You may not post advertisements.

Posts discussing or linking to online auction sites or the sale of in-game goods or services for real money are strictly prohibited unless a user has previously asked for such information from other forum users and you are providing it for them or the information is helpful in the current thread.

15. Avoid using profanity.

Using partial masking (such as asterisks or punctuation marks) to bypass the profanity filter is prohibited and will result in the same action as if the actual word had been typed.

16. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts that are insulting and rude may be deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.

17. Disputes which cannot be resolved between forum users and moderators may be arbitrated by the forum administrators.

To discuss problems or concerns, please send an e-mail to: admin@theengineeringguild.co.uk

18. Negative destructive arguments from other communities.

Negative destructive arguments from other websites are not welcome here, asking about them or wanting to hear a side of the story is strictly prohibited. I know users bring problems others have to this forum all the time and expect the people here to respond to what others are saying else where in order to make their problem in to our problem. Those attempting to do this here will be considered in breach of "Rule 4. Trolling is prohibited".

19. Abusive PMs will not be tolerated.

This website does not tolerate users that send Abusive PMs, those who receive one should provide proof and email it too admin@theengineeringguild.co.uk. See Providing Proof at the bottom of these rules.

20. We do not allow users hiding behind proxies.

We will ban the proxy but leave the user account intact providing that user has not breached our rules before, if they have, we may ban that use if they use a proxy. If you wish to use a proxy on this site, you must ask permission first. We have found those who use proxies do so to cause trouble and whilst we recognise there are some situations that are valid for using a proxy, they are out numbered by far, by those who abuse proxies.

21. The patriot rule.

Attempting to stop users from another country from talking about issues you would allow your own country men to talk about freely is considered racist act and a bannable offence. If any talk is considered offensive to a country, The correct procedure is to report it to an admin or moderator and then point to the offensive part and explain why its offensive to you. Should the admin or moderator agree, it will be dealt with. Should they believe your being a troll and trying to stifle legitimate debate or turn it in to flame, you will be banned from this site. Religion is not covered by this rule and we recommend you avoid it. Political debates should always try and remain balanced and fair at all times and avoid hate mongering or face the Troll rule above.

22. The rules are not open for debate.

Please help us keep our community a positive and enjoyable place for all users. If you have a concern about a user in violation of the rules please send an email to admin@theengineeringguild.co.uk with the URL of the post in question and all relevant details. Thanks!

Punishment and Warnings

The following system will be used to deal with those who break the rules. The Offending posts will be deleted as standard after its contents are recorded as proof.

1. Gathering Proof

The offenders post will be recorded using a screen shot and a cut and paste of the full text if the screen shot does not capture the whole message. This information will be kept safe in case an Admin or Moderator requests it. See Providing Proof at the bottom of these rules.

2. Punishment and Warnings.

This website punishes people in these ways.

1) Warnings

A warning for minor offences is given privately via PM or verbally on the forum so others know not to do it either.

2) To join our private forum, answer this question.

"What is your favourite game".
Add the answer to your introductory post in the introduction forum and use the words "favourite" when naming your favourite game because people name games all the time and unless you say Favourite, we will not accept your answer. Also talking about this question openly is against our rules and may get you banned or your account deleted, so just answer the question and do not talk about it.

3) Bans.

A ban will be given to the user who commits more serious offences, ignoring a warning would qualify as a serious offence and earn a ban for the user. Users that are banned are usually banned for life, no second chances but on occasion a user who gets banned and apologises and acts in a civil way may be allowed back on to the forum after a reasonable time period has past.

4) IP Bans

A user who is banned and returns to cause more trouble will be IP Banned. Once the Admin has to resort to IP Banning users, the punishment system on the website and forum will be considered ineffective against that user and more serious action will be taken against them should they return. Evidence collected previously will at this point be used against the user if they return as outlined under 4 below.

5) Working around IP Bans.

Users that work around an IP Ban will be reported to all Services they use as standard and any evidence collected will be passed on to those services. At this point the user will no longer be treated as an abusive forum user but as a threat to the website.

6) Threat to the website.

All threats to this website will be reported to the police in the country that hosts the website (UK) and any evidence gathered will be passed on to the local authorities at this time so that any treaties or laws that apply can be considered and acted upon.

Providing Proof

Proof of a breach of these rules can be provided by selecting the browser window, scrolling to the offending text and holding down ALT and pressing Print Screen. This will make a copy of the window in the Cut and Paste Buffer. Next open up any paint package and paste it in and save the image as a Jpeg file. If your a windows user, go to the start menu/program files/accessories and select paint and then press control V to paste in the proof and save it as a jpg file. In the event the screen shot does not capture all the evidence, include multiple screen shots and a copy of the text.

Then PM a member of staff to make arrangements to send it to us.
